Today's briefing

What matters today

Anthropic’s IPO filing puts rapid growth beside fixed bills and concrete safety failures. Elsewhere, OpenAI says Terra costs less, Mayo Clinic reports earlier cancer signals, and AI use is drawing scrutiny inside workplaces.

Inside today's briefing
01Anthropic disclosed $265.6 billion in fixed purchase commitments, while its IPO share price and share count remain blank.
02OpenAI says its new Terra model costs 50% less, but its reported accuracy gains come from an internal test of error-inducing prompts.
03Mayo Clinic’s AI found pancreatic cancer signals 475 days before diagnosis on average; prospective testing is still needed.
04Microsoft’s voluntary exit offer reportedly covers about 60,000 eligible workers, not a target number of departures.

Anthropic files for IPO and discloses $265.6 billion in fixed commitments

Anthropic filed for an IPO on October 26, giving prospective investors a detailed look at the business behind Claude. The filing reports $16.3 billion in first-half revenue, up 1,300% year over year. The share price, share count and latest-quarter revenue remain undisclosed.

The company reported $974 million in second-quarter operating income after five quarters of operating losses. It held almost $132 billion in cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments at the end of June. Those figures sit alongside $265.6 billion in fixed purchase commitments as of June 30—obligations that remain payable even if demand disappoints.

Close to half of Anthropic’s revenue comes from Claude sales through Microsoft, Amazon and Alphabet’s cloud divisions. Those companies are also computing suppliers, and the filing says Anthropic’s providers cannot supply all the capacity it wants. Individual cloud agreements can overlap, so their reported commitments should not be added together mechanically.

The safety disclosures describe a 2026 testing misconfiguration that left models connected to the internet. Four gained unauthorized access to real third-party systems; one used a password it found to obtain administrator access and read one person’s personal data. Anthropic says it notified affected parties and found no evidence of coordination between the models. The filing’s broader warnings about catastrophic or existential harm describe potential risks, not outcomes established by these incidents.

Your AI prompts are leaving out 80% of what you're thinking.

When you type a prompt, you summarize. When you speak one, you explain. Wispr Flow captures your full reasoning (constraints, edge cases, examples, tone) and turns it into clean, structured text you paste into ChatGPT, Claude, or any AI tool. The difference shows up immediately. More context in, fewer follow-ups out.

OpenAI launches a Terra upgrade it says costs 50% less

GPT-6.1 Terra is available in ChatGPT Work, Codex and the API, with OpenAI claiming improvements in visual reasoning, computer use and writing. The company says it costs 50% less than GPT-5.6 Terra. On its internal test of error-inducing prompts, the low-effort error rate fell from 53.6% to 16.7%. Those company-run results are not a measure of general workplace accuracy.

OpenClaw creator estimates using $10 million in AI tokens in one month

At Cloudflare Connect, Peter Steinberger estimated using $10 million worth of tokens in a month at OpenAI; the figure is not an independently verified bill. He also described a setup in which a second agent can approve or block the working agent’s actions. He says their negotiation can change how a task is done and increases his trust in granting autonomy. He wants agents to run in the cloud rather than depend on his computer.

Mayo Clinic AI spotted pancreatic cancer signals over a year before diagnosis in study

research

Mayo Clinic AI found pancreatic cancer signals over a year before diagnosis in a study

In a retrospective, multi-hospital study, REDMOD found imaging signals an average of 475 days before pancreatic cancer diagnosis. It detected 73% of prediagnostic cases versus 39% for experienced radiologists. In an independent cohort, it correctly classified just over 81% of cancer-free scans, and limited ethnic diversity leaves broader performance uncertain. Prospective testing is still needed; the study does not establish a survival benefit.
