Apple Releases macOS 27 With a Siri That Can Read Your Screen

Lead story / launch

Apple releases macOS 27 with Siri that can read the screen

Apple has released macOS 27 Golden Gate, putting a redesigned Siri at the center of the Mac update. The assistant can use the active window or a selected part of the screen as context, then answer questions, summarize material, search images, or take actions.

Users can add the focused window with Command-Shift-Space or select a screen region with Command-Shift-6. Spotlight now accepts Siri questions, narrows searches to Applications, Files, Actions, or Clipboard, and can run Shortcuts. TechCrunch also found Siri could retrieve details from files, emails, and messages.

Apple is extending the assistant into writing workflows as well: users can select text for proofreading, improvement, or rewriting, and ask Siri to draft inside text fields. A dedicated Siri app syncs conversation history privately through iCloud across Apple devices, while Safari can organize tabs by topic and track pages for changes such as price drops or restocks.

The new reach has clear limits. Apple Intelligence and Siri AI require an M1-or-later Mac or MacBook Neo, and Siri AI starts as an English beta, with additional language support planned for October. Apple presents the access as a way to make answers more relevant; the practical test is whether users find Siri dependable enough to hand over on-screen and personal context during everyday work.

Store It. Search It. Analyze It. One Postgres

Your AI app generates three kinds of data at once: events, vector embeddings, and the analytics you run on top of them. The default move is three systems, three sets of tooling, and pipelines to keep them in sync.

TimescaleDB handles all three in the Postgres you already run.

Hypertables ingest events at scale. pgvector and pgvectorscale store and search embeddings. Continuous aggregates keep analytics live without re-querying everything.

Same SQL, same tools, one system to operate. No pipelines to sync, no drift, no second database to feed.

Point it at your heaviest workload and watch it stay fast as data grows. It's still Postgres. Start on Tiger Cloud and get $1000 in credits.

OpenAI reportedly uses contractors to review ChatGPT prompts

404 Media reports that Project Lily relies on hundreds of contractors who read anonymized ChatGPT prompts, summarize user intent, compare generated replies and score them. OpenAI says eligible chats pass through Privacy Filter, but acknowledges it can miss uncommon or ambiguous identifiers. For Free, Plus and Pro accounts, model improvement is enabled by default; users can opt out, and Temporary Chats are excluded from training.

China rebukes Anthropic CEO over AI chip restrictions

China’s Foreign Ministry said Dario Amodei’s approach would undermine global AI governance. Amodei has argued for keeping advanced AI chips and chipmaking equipment from China and acting against smuggling, while not advocating a ban on Chinese open-weight models. He also says global safety testing could require Chinese participation, but this exchange supplied no shared framework.

Trump calls data-center opposition a “hoax” in call with Nvidia CEO

At the All-In Summit, Trump used a speakerphone call with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to portray data centers as an economic and geopolitical priority, call opposition a “hoax,” and oppose additional AI regulation. He also suggested China could be behind opposition without offering evidence for a specific campaign. Huang endorsed Trump’s build-first framing during the exchange.

Daydream is expanding fashion discovery beyond its app interface on iPhone: a saved outfit photo can trigger item-level matching, while Siri can submit voice or text requests to Daydream. The features rely on an installed app, iOS 27, and Siri AI, so they are not yet device-agnostic shopping access. They also test whether Daydream’s roughly 3 million-item catalog—and its Style Passport personalization—can support a broader shopping-agent strategy across everyday digital contexts.Source story ↗

Perplexity’s Portable Computer is now available on Windows PCs equipped with Nvidia RTX or RTX PRO GPUs carrying at least 24GB of VRAM. The agent runs Qwen 3.8 27B locally to work across files and connected services, including GitHub, Outlook, Slack, and Google Drive, without using Perplexity Computer credits.
