Inside today's briefing
01ChatGPT’s new interface puts editable graphs and task-specific calculators inside answers, with Free and Go access scheduled for October 8.
02Google’s public checker can detect supported AI watermarks, but a negative result does not prove a file is authentic or human-made.
03Epic paused most product development after AI found potential routes into patient records that would not trigger an intrusion log.
04Surveyed finance executives reported spending 26% of their workweek checking or correcting AI, even as 53% planned more licenses.

OpenAI Brings Interactive Charts, Maps and Calculators Into ChatGPT

Lead story / launch

OpenAI adds interactive charts and calculators to ChatGPT answers

OpenAI is rolling out a new ChatGPT interface that puts interactive elements inside responses, moving beyond an experience built predominantly around text. Called Intelligent UI, it adds tappable buttons, interactive charts, editable graphs and calculators tailored to the task at hand. OpenAI says the aim is to make complex subjects easier to learn.

At a demonstration for journalists, product manager Aarush Selvan asked ChatGPT to explain how an airplane wing generates lift. It returned several diagrams showing how planes stay in the air. Other examples included recipe visuals, bicycle mechanics, a map for a multi-day hike and a personal savings calculator, spanning both explanations and everyday planning.

The global rollout was scheduled to begin October 7 for Pro, Plus, Business and Enterprise users. Free users and subscribers to the lower-cost Go tier are scheduled to receive the interface October 8, according to TechCrunch. The schedule puts paid and free accounts one day apart.

The practical change is that controls sit inside the answer: users can edit a graph rather than only look at it, or use a calculator built for the question under discussion. The shift does not mean every conversation must become more visual. OpenAI says users who prefer fewer visuals will be able to dial them back.

Google Opens Its AI Watermark Checker Globally, With Support Beyond Gemini

Google opens its AI watermark checker to users worldwide

Google opened its SynthID watermark checker globally in English, adding detection for supported signals from OpenAI, Nvidia and Kakao. Users must sign in and get about 10 checks a day across images, video and audio; Google says the cap helps deter watermark-removal tools. A negative result does not establish that a file is authentic or human-made, because AI media without a supported watermark falls outside its coverage.

Epic Pauses Product Development to Fix Patient-Data Flaws Found by AI

Epic pauses most product development to fix security flaws found by AI

Epic paused most product development after Anthropic’s Claude Mythos found flaws in some MyChart customer configurations. Its security chief said outsiders could potentially access patient records without an intrusion being logged; the model did not establish whether records could also be changed undetected. Epic has not disclosed the bugs’ technical details or confirmed a completion date. Healthcare providers still need access to the systems while fixes are made.

Surveyed Finance Leaders Spend 26% of Their Week Checking AI, Datarails Finds

Surveyed finance leaders spend 26% of their workweek checking AI output

In Datarails’ survey, 270 finance executives reported spending an average of 26% of their workweek checking or correcting AI output. Only 7% said their finance function was fully ready to implement AI across all workflows, yet 53% planned to expand licenses. The online survey covered large U.S. organizations and was conducted in July for an AI finance software vendor. These are self-reported experiences, not an industry-wide measurement.
