Today's briefing

What matters today

Today’s lineup brings AI into the fitting room, spoken-word tracks, and audiobook conversations. Faster model output and cheaper coding workflows arrive alongside reports of uneven image safeguards and public screenshot leaks.

Inside today's briefing
01ChatGPT shoppers can preview clothes on their own photos and keep products alongside generated try-on images in a Library.
02NVIDIA claims up to eightfold faster token generation for Astra Ultrafast, not an eightfold reduction in coding-task time.
03LangChain reports 64% lower median model cost with task-based routing, but its test does not establish equivalent code quality.
04Glow Security says AI agents exposed more than 13,000 internal screenshots across 343 organizations through public GitHub repositories.

OpenAI Adds Clothing Try-On and Saved Shopping Picks to ChatGPT

Lead story / launch

ChatGPT lets shoppers try on clothes virtually and save favorite products

ChatGPT now lets shoppers preview clothing and accessories on a photo of themselves. OpenAI began the global rollout of Virtual Try On and Favorites on October 1, adding a Try On button to shopping results. A selfie or full-body photo supplies the reference for an image of how an item might look.

The preview does not have to start with ChatGPT’s shopping results: users can upload an item image, including a web screenshot, and ask ChatGPT to try it on. Favorites keeps discovered products in an in-app Library alongside generated previews, preserving both the shopping find and the visual experiment. Style descriptions and celebrity outfit photos can also serve as starting points for finding products.

The features run on ChatGPT Images 2.5, which OpenAI released September 8. The company says it better preserves subjects from reference photos and improves lighting, texture, and editing consistency. Its claim of up to 50% lower image-generation latency compares the model with Images 2.0; it is not a promised try-on completion time. These are appearance previews, not guarantees that a garment will fit.

TechCrunch reports that OpenAI previously moved away from instant checkout after it performed poorly. These additions focus instead on evaluating products and keeping them under consideration before buying. Google shipped a similar virtual try-on feature in July 2025, so the category is already established. Whether shoppers choose ChatGPT for the task—and how much they trust an AI-generated version of themselves when deciding what to buy—remains unresolved.

Thieves steal PlusAI trailers carrying sand, not Nvidia chips

PlusAI recovered two trailers stolen overnight from its Fremont warehouse; they carried 40,000 pounds of sand used as ballast for autonomous-truck tests. The powered tractor units containing its driving technology stayed inside the warehouse. Authorities reportedly said the thieves opened the trailers, found nothing valuable, and abandoned them. At least one trailer had Nvidia branding, but the thieves’ motive is unknown; no arrests had been reported as of September 27.

OpenAI Adds Faster GPT-6 Astra Access, With NVIDIA Claiming Up to 8x Token Speed

launch

Nvidia claims up to eightfold faster text generation for OpenAI’s new speed tier

GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast is available through OpenAI’s API and to eligible ChatGPT Work and Codex users, with a separate Amazon Bedrock offer. NVIDIA says OpenAI used internal models to optimize the software serving it on NVIDIA GPUs. Its up-to-eightfold claim compares token generation with Astra Standard, not end-to-end task time. AWS cites a different claim of up to sixfold faster API inference, so the access routes do not share one universal speed guarantee.

Researchers Propose AI Training That Targets Early Mistakes and Recovery

Researchers propose training AI agents to recover from early mistakes

Researchers introduced PivotOPD to teach multi-turn AI agents both how to avoid consequential mistakes and how to recover after them. A teacher model supplies the correct action at a wrong turn and recovery actions for the following turns. The authors report the strongest average results against 13 baselines across three benchmarks for two Qwen3 student models. Those findings cover specific models and benchmarks, not a broad guarantee of better performance.
