This week's briefing

What happened this week

This week paired a federal AI naming directive and a .si domain rush with narrow accounting wins and a $100 million push to train Claude deployment engineers. The questions carrying into next week are practical: whether businesses adopt “SI,” where coding agents publish data, and how lifelike video AI discloses itself.

Inside this week's digest
01Trump’s naming directive covers federal agencies, while conflicting registration counts still show a sharp rise in .si demand.
02Mercor’s models aced four simplified accounting scenarios, but the study excluded client conversations and company context.
03Anthropic committed $100 million to train 10,000 engineers by the end of 2027, tying the final credential to a workplace project.
04Glow Security says agents exposed more than 13,000 internal screenshots on public GitHub repositories across 343 organizations.

Slovenia’s .si Domain Registrations Surge Amid Trump’s AI Rebrand

Lead story / government action

Slovenia’s web address registrations surge amid Trump’s AI rebrand

Trump’s push to replace “AI” with “Super Intelligence” in federal communications has coincided with a rush for Slovenian web addresses. The country’s .si suffix matches his preferred abbreviation, but the registry has not established that his comments caused the increase.

Register.si spokesperson Klara Herman told the BBC that 44,000 addresses were registered in September 2026, compared with fewer than 2,000 in August. September 30 alone brought 11,000 registrations. She described late September’s activity as unprecedented against the previous 12 months, while cautioning against attributing the entire increase to Trump.

The exact totals remain unresolved. TechRadar cited 46,066 September registrations and 3,515 in August—about 13.1 times as many. Its “over 100X” headline compared one exceptionally busy day with an average August day, not monthly totals. Both accounts show a sharp rise, but they do not agree on its size.

The BBC identified speculative domain buying as one possible explanation: reserving names in the hope of selling them later for a profit. That is not automatically cybersquatting. TechRadar says Register.si charges registrars €10 per domain, while the registry rejected speculation about millions in earnings for Slovenia as having “no real basis.”

The directive’s reach is narrower than an industry-wide rename. It instructs US executive-branch agencies to use “SI” and “Super Intelligence” in official communications outside statute; businesses are not required to follow. For domain buyers, wider private adoption remains a market bet, not a consequence guaranteed by the order.

Mercor says AI beats 12 accountants on four simplified month-end tasks

Mercor reported perfect model scores on four simplified month-end accounting scenarios, beating 12 licensed accountants on speed and accuracy. Models were also more than 10 times cheaper per grading criterion met. The test excluded client conversations, coworker help and company context, and could not measure gains from human-AI collaboration. On the broader benchmark, almost 60% of tasks had not been fully solved by any model, according to The Decoder.
